Mount Pleasant Magazine Jan/Feb 2018
15 www.MPMcalendar.com | www.BestOfMP.com | www.MountPleasantMagazine.com from the editor W e writers – and artists of every variety – spend a lot of time thinking about inspiration. Is it a mysterious lightning bolt that hits every now and then, only to leave us impatiently waiting for the next strike? Or is inspiration something we have more control over? I don’t know about you, but I would prefer the latter – how else are we going to maintain our zeal and passion for everyday life? Yet all too often, we find ourselves wondering where our inspiration is. I’d like to think our first issue of Mount Pleasant Magazine in 2018 is a reminder that we have control over finding our inspiration. Sometimes it comes from people, sometimes from nature, sometimes from ourselves – but it’s always there for us, and the new year is an ideal time to home in on it. There are stories in this very issue that made me, for one, feel inspired: Diane Pauldine’s piece on the remarkable people behind Wake Up Carolina, an organization making strides to solve the opioid crisis; Will Haynie’s personal essay on the road to becoming our new mayor; Cullen Murray-Kemp’s interview with Wando basketball coach Chris Warzynski and his plans to make this season the best yet; plus much more. Also, this is our ever-popular Best of Mount Pleasant issue, and the results of your votes, dear readers, inspired the magazine you’re holding. The three covers that grace this issue were photographed by Jennifer Bopp Cady at the Sweetgrass Event Center, and all of our models are marvelously dressed by Jean’s Bridal Charleston and styled by Vanity Salon. On one cover, we have Christiane Farrell, the town of Mount Pleasant; Josh Surratt, Seacoast Church; and Sherry Eppelsheimer, Wando High School. Another cover includes Ed Hunnicutt, the Hunnicutt Real Estate Team; Kimberly Powell, Woodhouse Day Spa; Billy Swails, State Farm Insurance; and Jan Clouse, Carolina Lanterns & Lighting. And another cover is Kim Coleman, Vanity Salon; Angie Balderson, Consign Haven; Dr. Brad Bodkin, the Vision Center at Seaside Farms; and Buffie Lilly, Charleston Wine Pairings. I can’t thank all of you, as well as my other team members, enough for making these covers shine! On behalf of myself and everyone on the Mount Pleasant Magazine team, we hope your 2018 is a happy and inspiring year and that your favorite community magazine kindles the spark of inspiration.
