Mount Pleasant Magazine Jan/Feb 2019

17 www.MPMcalendar.com | www.BestOfMP.com | www.ILoveMountPleasant.com I wish I could say I could plan everything and that it would all go according to my well-thought-out plan. Don’t we all? Well, I’ve gotten relatively into the swing of things here at Mount Pleasant Magazine , always planning the best I can for each magazine and starting to feel OK with the role I have and what I am supposed to manage for each issue. I knew this “Best Of ” issue was going to be huge – complete with work and scheduling and photo shoots and cancellations and all kinds of other stuff. I should have known that somehow, something was going to go wrong, that we weren’t going to simply sail through this issue without any complications. As Bill Macchio would say, there’s always going to be a “challenge, not a problem.” Appendicitis is a challenge for sure, and it definitely threw a wrench in my plans during what I considered to be a critical time in the publishing process for this magazine. What else could I do but let others take care of it all? Well, that’s what happened and it all turned out OK. The upside is that I learned something: I have a “Best Of ” team here surrounding me. They picked up the slack so I was able to hit the ground running – not literally – when I was ready. Who’s the “they”? Anne Toole, Brian Sherman, Ginger Sottile, Dana Coleman and Bill Macchio – and all the great, talented, dependable writers I’m able to reach out to at a moment’s notice. Thankfully, I made it back to my real life in time for the Best Of Mount Pleasant photo shoot. I was grateful to see everything we had worked toward come together and to see all the participants dressed elegantly in their Jean’s apparel and having a good time on location at Sweetgrass Event Center. This issue has easily been my most challenging and rewarding, as unprecedented circumstances forced me to let go of my responsibilities and trust my team a bit more. What better way to enter the New Year? I hope you enjoy this issue – complete with our town’s bests, as voted by you; a tribute to Black History Month; your complete bridal directory, proposal stories, and everything bridal in East Cooper; and much more … Here’s to a happy, healthy New Year! – Helen Harris Managing Editor editor@mountpleasantmagazine.com Photo by Jenn Cady. from the editor Whether a romantic escape, or a fishing or watersports adventure, Freedom Boat Club takes you there!
