If we don’t represent a certain artist, have a piece of pottery or offer a class someone is looking for, I’m happy to find it and send them to that shop.” The pandemic of 2020 has changed the way businesses have operated, and Karen’s Korner Frame Shop and Art Gallery is no exception. “Everyone has to wear a mask; we wipe down and socially distance; and we have cut our class sizes from 12 to six with everyone having their own table.” The pandemic cloud came with an unexpected emotional silver lining. Boals explained, “We have friends and customers coming in to say they want to support us during these trying times, and that is very heartwarming and appreciated. We have made good friends in 20 years of doing business, and we would not be here if not for them.” W hen she opened Karen’s Korner Frame Shop and Art Gallery in Mount Pleasant in 2000, Karen Boals wanted everyone to walk into her shop and be able to purchase a piece of fine art — emphasis on “everyone.” “Not everyone has thousands of dollars to spend on a painting,” Boals said. “We have original handmade pieces by over 15 local artisans and craftspeople, ranging in price from $8 and up.” Boals’ philosophy has worked out well.
