Our East Cooper Neighbors JOHN HARRIS Where is your business located? My business is in Park West in Mount Pleasant. What is your business? I am the owner of Wings Basketball Academy. We teach and serve basketball players, from 4-years-old to professional players, who want to develop their basketball IQ and skills through rigorous, detailed training— and through love. I am grateful to be a mentor for youth, either through basketball training or small groups. I am also an author. My personal memoir, “Playmaker,” is available on Amazon and as an e-book. What is your NewYear’s resolution? I am not into New Year’s resolutions much, but I do want to create more consistent habits. One quote that changed my perspective on resolutions is “You do not rise to the level of your goals, but you fall to the level of your habits.” Some daily habits I am working on are 30 minutes of quiet time, consistent dates with my wife and children and more consistent healthy eating decisions. What is your favorite restaurant in Mount Pleasant? I am a big fan of Main Squeeze in Belle Hall. I also love when my wife and I are able to go to Mex 1 in North Mount Pleasant. I love their shrimp tacos! STEVIE TWOMEY Where do you live? I live in Park West. What is your favorite part about your business? I own Joey Bag A Donuts. My favorite part of the business is the sense of community and the amazing customer relations I have built. Where is your favorite place to go with your family in Mount Pleasant? My family and I love to run around Palmetto Islands County Park, grab dinner at Dog and Duck and get a treat to finish the night at Sweet Frog. What was your favorite part of 2022? My favorite part of 2022 — I have to say — is the amazing relationships I built this year. I am very blessed to have such special people in my life. DARLA ROURK Where do you live? I live in North Mount Pleasant. What is your occupation? I am the director of marketing and communications at Palmetto Christian Academy. What is your favorite coffee shop in Mount Pleasant? I love the quaintness and coziness of Metto Coffee & Tea. Their caramel latte is always delicious and a sweet treat during the holiday season. What are you most excited about for 2023? For me, a new year always brings a sense of gratitude as I reflect on the many joyful moments celebrated with family and friends. Looking ahead to 2023, my husband and I are feeling a little more confident in our role as empty nesters. With more free time, we are excited to explore many of the wonderful events and beautiful places in our area. We are blessed with such a strong community —where we live, where we worship and where we work — and are thankful for another year here! Oh, and we are hopeful for more visits from our Clemson Tiger college kids!
