With 76,007 votes cast this year, the highest number of votes ever, we have reached a total of 570,401 votes since 2013. That's a lot of votes! Here at Mount Pleasant Magazine, our excitement for Best Of runs deep, because we know how impactful it is for our local economy. For example, residents of Mount Pleasant tend to frequent businesses and services that were voted the best or a finalist as one of the best. Further, new residents who move to Mount Pleasant, or any of the towns that make up East Cooper, will use the Best Of edition as their guide for where to go and what to do. I couldn’t tell you how many times new residents have gone out of their way to tell me how helpful Mount Pleasant Magazine has been to them after moving to our community. Rewind 34 years to 1990 when we were publishing East Cooper Magazine, the predecessor of the magazine you’re holding, and we launched Charleston’s very first Best Of voting. It was quite a different time: Mark Zuckerberg was only 6 years old and neither Amazon nor Google were part of our conversations because they didn't yet exist.
