History has proven this and the same can be said for our annual Best of Mount Pleasant edition. Every year, after the final votes are tallied, it thrills our staff and readers to see what businesses were voted the best in their category. It’s synonymous to waking up on Christmas morning as a child and in spirit as a grown adult. Our prestigious Best Of awards hold the weight of a Grammy, Oscar or an Emmy, just on a hyperlocal level. It’s an honor and a privilege to receive just as much as it is to award. The years of tradition and pageantry speak for the award itself. But to summarize, we’ve categorized 275 individual awards into six major classifications: Health & Wellness, Food & Drink, Shopping & Goods, Personalities & Services, Entertainment & Leisure and Pets. The following pages include a description of the award and a brief synopsis of the recipient. From the best doctors and bartenders to the tastiest shrimp and grits and the most stylish boutiques, we’ve covered every profession and industry that makes Mount Pleasant the best place to live, work and play day-in and day-out. The people have spoken, the votes have been cast and opinions have been formed on what businesses and individuals in town best represent our golden standard of excellence. The following results are strictly from the mouths of our readers, who steer the moral compass of this issue, our magazine and, most importantly, our brand. The numbers are staggering and unprecedented. This year’s contest yielded 76,007 votes, the highest number of votes on record since our Best Of awards first launched in 1990. Over the past 10 years, Mount Pleasant Magazine has tallied an impressive 570,401 votes. For those counting at home, that’s more than half a million in a town that had a population of 30,000 residents as recently as 1990. Today, those population numbers have tripled, and that increase is certainly reflected in our rising Best Of voter turnout.
