It was the only race we won and an incredible finish to such a close swim meet.” As for the girls, they merely went undefeated on the season with a mark of 7-0 and notched their fourth straight state swimming title over 26 teams, winning eight of 11 events and walloping second-place finisher Gray Collegiate Academy 590-469. “The girls had a mission from the beginning of the season to win four in a row,” Van Metre said. “We had four girls compete in every individual event, which was a first for us.” Individual winners included senior Ellie Chalupsky in the 100m fly and 100m back; Mia Devito in the 50m and 100m freestyle; junior Carley Foust in the 200m freestyle; and freshman Charlotte Good in the 200 individual medley. The boys were led by juniors Richard Miller and Nicksic and freshmen Jason Chalupsky and Cahill. While dual state titles are rare, Van Metre added that the two groups of swimmers are already eyeing a potential repeat. “This was an incredible season,” she said. “The swimmers worked hard, swam for each other and it ended up being the best season for Bishop England swimming.” OCEANSIDE COLLEGIATE ACADEMY GIRLS TENNIS For OCA girls tennis, the state playoffs didn’t carry much drama or nail-biting, as the Lady Landsharks soundly whipped all four of their opponents in almost textbook fashion.
