Whether we are talking about our clothes, our hair, our nails, our home décor or a piece of art, we tend to spend considerable time and energy on optimizing beauty. But what if we took a moment, here in the new year, to focus on something far more meaningful: beauty from within. Shifting our attention from the external things that ultimately will pass to the beauty of who we are inside. Beauty Through Nature Mount Pleasant is a beautiful place. A place filled with marsh views and beach accessibility. A place with rich culture and diversity. A place that we call home because of its small-town feel. There are spots in Mount Pleasant that exude the calm quietness that allow the stresses of the world to melt away. This year, build stillness into your routine. Intentionally put ‘Pitt Street Bridge’ or ‘marsh view’ on your schedule. Slow down, inhale and do less. There is beauty in surrendering your schedule. Beauty Through Routines Speaking of your schedule, there are some simple practices you can implement this year to foster inner beauty. Start by practicing gratitude. When you shift your focus from “I have to” to “I get to,” your brain begins to rewire itself. At the end of the day, write down three things you’re grateful for. Keep a gratitude journal every day for a year, and this time next year, you can look back and see beautiful things that happened that you otherwise may have forgotten. Next, listen to music. Whether it’s instrumental or worship or another genre you find soothing, music truly forces us to get out of our own heads.
