Instead, consider this an invitation to focus on your winter glow. Malissa LaRoche, PA-C, owner of True Beauty Aesthetics in Mount Pleasant, gave us all the tea on what it means to care for our skin right here in the Lowcountry. Think of this as your cold weather reset. Firstly, LaRoche commented on a common mistake people make this time of year. “I see my clients drying their skin out with cleansers that are too harsh for the weather. I would switch them to cream cleansers, so they don’t strip the skin of its oils.” Along these same lines, she spoke about adjusting your skincare routine if you’re dealing with winter-related issues like dryness or dullness. How can we invite hydration back in? “Wash your face less. You really don’t have to wash again in the morning,” explained LaRoche. “You can wipe your face gently with a moist washcloth then apply your morning regimen. Also, choose heavier moisturizers for comfort.” Social media always seems to throw a million products in our face. What’s actually worth the hype? LaRoche highlighted three specific items that we don’t want to skip – even in winter. 1. Sunscreen 2. High-quality vitamin C 3. A tolerable product to promote cell turnover Looking ahead to 2026, we asked LaRoche what she is most excited about in her industry, and her enthusiasm was contagious. “I am so excited about Ariessence, or platelet-derived growth factor. I have seen dazzling results applying it after laser or microneedling. It is good for every skin type and restores skin’s glow and bounce like no other product I have ever seen – and I have been in aesthetics for over 20 years.” Sometimes we tend to shy away from new products or even changes in our routines, but these practical tips from LaRoche will save you thousands and winterproof your skin throughout the season. Embrace the cold because we know it’s short-lived. When spring arrives, your skin will thank you for guarding your glow. BY KATIE FINCH Winter Skincare Moisturizing what matters
