We were de- termined to get a golden retriever, being that was Thomas’ closest companion growing up. We were deep into Google searches and even asked golden retriever owners around town where they got their dogs. It all felt a little too forced, so Thomas and I decided it just wasn't the right time. Two days after that decision was made, I heard from a friend that she had a wonderful experience with local dog rescue, Palmetto Paws. I jumped onto their website and im- mediately found a beautiful Labrador/golden retriever mix. Now usually, I would have closed the page and convinced myself that she was already matched with an owner or that we wouldn't qualify for her. This time though, something just felt different. I put the application in and hoped for the best. Twenty minutes after I pressed “submit application,” I got a call to arrange a meeting with this sweet pup. Thomas was out of town filming a wedding and had no idea what I had done. I said “yes” to the meeting hoping he would be cool with it. Thankfully, he was! The next morn- ing, we met Kym with Palmetto Paws to discuss the adop- tion and to meet Ariel (who we renamed to Indi). It was A HOMECOMING TAIL By Sarah Hunnicutt Photos by Thomas Runion Indi M
