We discussed the difficulties our town has overcome, and the recent passing of emergency ordinance 20037 requiring Mount Pleasant residents to wear face masks to reduce exposure to COVID-19 and what the road ahead looks like for our community. Although we talked about some serious topics, we had fun and it was positive. I enjoyed listening to Mayor Haynie explain how special his four-legged family member is to him. He inspired hope when he spoke about the efficiency of Town Administrator Eric DeMoura and the rest of the team at Town Hall. For me, hope and positivity are the perfect tools to live life to the fullest. Hope is what brought us to some of the subjects in this issue of Mount Pleasant Magazine . The interviews with local leaders of real estate, tourism, and the port share expert information that will help Mount Pleasant and Charleston see a brighter economic day. Anne Toole, a Charleston native, provided us with an inspiring interview with another native, Helen Hill. Helen is at the helm of the Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. She is passionate and optimistic about attracting tourists. When you read Anne’s interview, you’ll discover why Helen is up for the challenge and how past challenges have given her strength. The South Carolina Ports Authority is certain in their hope for the future, as well. Helen Mitternight’s interview with Jim Newsome shows a highly motivated leader ready for any challenge including the coronavirus. As Jim explains, “The port is a naturally social distancing environment.” We discovered the Charleston real estate market is hot and the housing industry has been giving plenty of hope to the area. Helen Mitternight interviewed our friend Bobette Fisher, who is the current president of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors. She points out during these days of coronavirus, buyers are even more eager to purchase their new homes.
