Ask anyone who knows me; celebrating women and lounging around the beach are two of my favorite things in life. I spent two years writing a blog about women while living by the ocean before my daughter was born. That made this one extra special. One of my favorite stories focuses on the renovation of the Culp home on IOP. I like that the project is not only beautiful, but that it also took a lot of work. My husband and I both come from salt-of-the-earth families in Appalachia. We grew up having to fight for what we got, and have appreciated our accomplishments so much because of it. When blood, sweat and tears go into a project, it makes it that much sweeter. This article shows that great things take time and is also inspiring for anyone wanting to do their own renovations. Plus, it is just downright gorgeous, and will give readers all the island feels. I can smell salt and coconut oil just thinking about it. One of the homeowners, Holly Culp, is also one of our women featured for her efforts in real estate. This issue highlights many women in various businesses who are showing us all what it means to be a girl boss. One business owner showed up eight months pregnant to our Charleston Women photoshoot, struggling through the heat and demands of work and family to represent women conquering their dreams on our pages. I. Freaking. Loved. That. I am inspired by the women in these pages more than they know. I edit the stories about them that come across my desk, and they make me feel motivated to do more. This isn’t just a job for me; it’s a chance to be a part of something so much bigger than myself. It’s the chance to lead a movement sweeping the area. I stand with the females you’ll read about, clanking my mimosa glass against theirs, to show what it means when we proudly declare, “We are Charleston Women.” -Lorna Hollifield Managing Editor SCAN • CLICK SUBSCRIBE YOUR COMMUNITY, YOUR MAGAZINE JULY/AUGUST 2022 C A L E N D A R O F E V E N T S • I S L A N D E D I T I O N • C H A R L E S T O N W O M E N Hurricane Hugo Remembering the Survivors The Hottest Summer Activities In and Out of theWater
