We honor those who gave everything to secure our freedoms, and that extends beyond just celebrating our independence on the fourth. We celebrate things true to America like freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the idea of “the American dream.” You know what else is a true American staple? That’s right, it’s good ol’ mac n’ cheese. We took to Instagram to find out our readers’ favorite recipes and got a winner. Make Hope and Daniel Singletary’s mouth-watering dish July 14 to celebrate National Mac and Cheese Day! DIRECTIONS: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, set up ice bath with 4 cups of water and 4 cups of ice cubes. Set aside. Combine 8 cups of water and kosher salt in pot. Bring to boil. Add macaroni and cook four minutes. Drain pasta in colander, then pour into ice bath to “shock.”Drain well. In a small pot, combine soup, cream, milk and butter. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Whisk in 3 cups of cheddar cheese. Season mixture with table salt and pepper. Remove from heat. In a large bowl, combine cheese sauce with drained noodles and mix. Transfer the noodle mixture to a two-quart baking dish. Top with remaining cheddar. Transfer to oven and bake for 20 minutes. Let cool and serve.
