The new bill proposes to add this statement to the original legislation: “The Secretary of Transportation, in consultation with the Secretary of Health and Human Services, shall seek to coordinate with the owners and operators of aircraft, airports, over-the-road buses, bus stations, passenger trains and passenger railroad stations to place the contact information of the national human trafficking hotline (including options to reach out to the hotline such as through phone, text or TTY) in the restrooms of each such aircraft, airport, overthe-road bus, bus station, passenger train and passenger railroad station operating within the United States.” Essentially, the goal is to grant those being trafficked the opportunity to call for rescue from the major platforms in which they are being moved. By posting the number in restrooms of transportation vehicles, victims of or witnesses to suspicious activity may have opportunity to make the call. Being rescued in transit could not only save someone from trauma but could save his or her life. According to data collected by TogetherFreedom.org, the average victim lives only seven to 10 years after first being trafficked.
