What do you do for fun when you have free time? How would you describe Charleston to someone wanting to move here? Here is what they had to say… KERRI DEVINE Writer/founder of Hot in Charleston According to Kerri Devine, “As the founder of a community of and for women, I am continually amazed by the collective of talented, vibrant and generous women who make Charleston the hottest community in the country.” Devine continued, “I am stimulated, and think we are all better off, when we follow our curiosity, learn something new or laugh with friends, new and old. So I try to see shows, and even put one on about midlife. I host a lot of dinner parties and events. I like to get women together to talk about their dreams and what’s next for them.” Devine added, “The beauty of our historic architecture and glorious gardens is simply unmatched. Just walking around Charleston is to be in awe of that beauty. We are all the caretakers. So to women wanting to move here, I say, bring your talents and get involved to enjoy, treasure and preserve all of Charleston’s remarkable gifts.” MARY ILE TAYLOR Learning coach/specialist/nature photographer To Mary Ile Taylor, “It is the outdoor lifestyle, the beautiful sunny days, our wonderful neighbors and the people I meet along the way in the Old Village of historic Mount Pleasant that makes living here special.” Taylor continued, “As I love what I do, I feel like I am not working, and every day is free time. Anything outdoors makes me happy, and that’s why I am usually found walking around the neighborhood with my sweet 13-year-old Boykin Spaniel, Sophie.” Taylor added, “I would describe Charleston as a place that has a slower pace, which allows for talking to your neighbor for a little while longer. It’s a place where one doesn’t meet a stranger, and hospitality is served as a tray of pimento cheese, watermelon and a nice wine. The offerings of fun are unlimited based on your interests.” ASHLEY HERRMAN In-house marketing assistant manager, Hilton Grand Vacations For Ashley Herrman, “Our small beach town with big city amenities makes for a wonderful place to live and play. Charleston is often called the “friendliest city in America,” and that has been my experience. Everything is a little bit slower in this city full of charm, and that is a huge appeal to those who are looking to slow down and enjoy life.” Herrman continued, “When I have free time, I’m in the Pilates studio, on the beach or boating, dining out at our fabulous restaurants and spending time with my family.” Herrman added, “The history, charm, beaches, restaurants, culture, art galleries and strolling downtown will have you falling in love with Charleston, a city brimming with adventures, amazing marsh and water views, sunsets and new places to venture and explore in this beautiful town.” Our East Cooper Neighbors BY SARAH ROSE
