53 www.ReadMPM.com | www.MountPleasantMagazine.com | www.MountPleasantPodcast.com The Town of Mount Pleasant held a groundbreaking ceremony on May 6 for the Kenny Mile Trail, a key new segment of the Mount Pleasant Way multiuse path system that will expand connectivity and honor a lasting local legacy. The approximately 1.25-mile multiuse path will connect the existing Park West Trail system to Porcher’s Bluff Road, while also linking to the recently completed All American Boulevard shared-use path and improving access to the Market at Oakland shopping center. According to the Town of Mount Pleasant Communications (TOMP) Office, the trail is designed to improve safe, separated access for pedestrians and cyclists along Highway 17. It will expand Mount Pleasant’s growing network of multiuse paths while creating new opportunities to travel through the community without relying on a vehicle. The trail’s name commemorates Kenny Seamon, cofounder of the landscape architecture and civil engineering firm SeamonWhiteside, and a respected landscape architect and community leader whose vision helped shape many of the neighborhoods, parks and public spaces that define Mount Pleasant today. Its groundbreaking ceremony was held on the 10-year anniversary of Kenny’s passing, bringing together community leaders, project partners and members of the Seamon family, adding a special significance to the event.
