57 www.MountPleasantMagazine.com | www.ILoveMountPleasant.com | www.BestofMP.com feature H oly City Tennis Shop offers all the latest equipment and supplies you need to elevate your game, whether you participate in a league or play for fun and exercise. They provide the widest selection of tennis products including rackets, shoes, strings, grips, some apparel and other accessories, and have the knowledgeable staff to help you find the right gear to match your playing style and skill level. Owner Daniel Dinardo, whose father was a tennis teaching pro, said that tennis has always been a hobby of his, although baseball was his sport of choice in high school. “It was always a sport I liked to play outside of baseball when I had time,” stated Dinardo. He took up tennis regularly after high school and played on the club team at College of Charleston. After graduating college, he worked at Tour Tennis for four years, then when Tour Tennis closed, he opened Holy City Tennis Shop in November 2017 to fill the void. The shop stocks all the top name brands, such as Asics, Babolat, Wilson, Head and K-Swiss. Rackets and shoes are their two biggest sellers as one might expect, but they also carry strings, grips, balls and some bags. Strings are available at different pricing tiers depending on what kind you are looking for, from a basic synthetic gut to a high-end natural gut string. Holy City offers a same day stringing service for those in a hurry to hit the courts with new strings, while a 24-hour turnaround for a racket re-stringing is typical. Their demo program allows you to “try before you buy,” with the option to choose up to three rackets for three to five days at a time at a cost of $3 per day per demo. You are not charged any fees until you return the rackets and the cost can be used as a credit toward whatever racket you select for your final purchase. “I recommend that program to anyone looking for a new racket,” said Dinardo. During the spring, Holy City will occasionally feature “demo days,” in which they go to tennis clubs around the area and the local pros offer some racket demos. Check with your local tennis club for more information. Holy City provides racket customization services as well, though Dinardo noted that this is more commonly used by advanced players who are serious about synchronizing the weight of their rackets. “Even two of the same racket can be off in terms of weight,” he explained. A diagnostic machine tells them the swing weight so they can either add weight or change where the weight is distributed on the racket. Patrons give rave reviews to the shop’s great selection, personable and knowledgeable customer service and prompt turnaround time on re-stringing rackets. “Swing” by their store for all your tennis needs.
