VOICE forMP. com I t was ironic that as we began to put this year’s Beautiful Homes issue together, my family decided that it was time for us to list our own home for sale and purchase a new-to-us home for our daughter to grow up in. Mount Pleasant is such a fantastic place to raise a family, from the wonderful schools to the abundance of well-maintained parks and playgrounds to the community atmosphere. It’s also a town that is full of gorgeous homes. Buying and selling at the same time is never an easy thing but doing it at a time when our local real estate market is experiencing a shockingly low inventory is something else entirely. Folks from around the country are making the move from cold, dreary climates or crowded cities to our temperate town – which our writer, Anne Toole, explores in her article on page 22. I personally found Janet E. Perrigo’s “Navigating Today’s Coastal Real Estate Market” on page 29 to be helpful as we mentally prepared ourselves for the craziness that was about to ensue. If searching for your dream home in a market where worthy houses are snatched up within days of being listed isn’t jarring enough, try doing it while researching the Ten Most Beautiful Homes of East Cooper, page 31. Browsing through photos of these expertly designed dwellings with sweeping views, killer kitchens and spa- like bathrooms will inspire house envy in even the most down-to-earth shopper. Interviewing Will Jenkinson and Chuck Lattiff about the Carolina One New Homes Group and Heirloom Landing for “If You Can Dream It, You Can Build It,” page 52, only made matters worse. But working on our Financial Fitness section, page 67, brought me back down to earth. Whether you’re house shopping like me, taking a financial hit due to COVID-19 or simply feel unsure about how to invest when everything seems uncertain, this section is a must-read. We also have a wonderful array of articles in this issue’s Charleston Women section, starting on page CW8, and I have to thank my colleagues Jeanne Taylor and Theresa Stratford for doing an excellent job answering the question, “Who are Charleston women?” This issue is full of visual and mental inspiration, and I hope that you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together for you. Most importantly, I hope that you walk away with at least a mild case of home envy – I know that I did. Lindsay C. T he breathtaking Sullivan’s Island home that graces our cover not only topped our Beautiful Homes list due to aesthetic appeal, this special property also recently garnered the title of most expensive home ever to sell on the island. Laurie Minges of Dunes Properties was the listing agent, and The Cassina Group’s Meghan Webster helped her lucky clients snatch up this beachfront gem. The home and its incredible pool by Aqua Blue Pools were photographed by Julia Lynn Photography .
