Or maybe it was the smell of salty air. Or it could have even been the sight of the marsh, which was a short stroll from his front door. No matter the reason, Smith found a gem in this — appropriately named — Friend Street location, built by Sea Island Builders. The 3,540-square-foot cottage-style home features 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths and appeals to the Lowcountry vernacular in its laid-back and welcoming character. Construction began in 2018 and was quickly completed in fall 2019. The home is outfitted with shiplap walls and rough-hewn white oak flooring throughout. Its open-plan design with continuous flow between the rooms allows the home’s interior to “live large.” Smith pointed out the wine cellar, cleverly housed under the main staircase; clerestory windows, which provide plenty of natural light; and the relaxed finishes that define the home’s essence. But he admitted that his favorite part of this award-winning house is the backyard oasis, outfitted with a pool and integral waterfall features. “I love to take it all in – the live oaks and palm trees. It is truly a Lowcountry haven and a Southern retreat.” This home was awarded a Home Builders Association of South Carolina 2020 Pinnacle Award for New Home Construction.
