Carpet Baggers has been around since 1992 and when you walk in, you are treated like family. Owner Dean Kelly, his wife Lou Ann, two daughters, sister and brother-in-law all work somewhere on site. Not to mention their entire team is considered family with some of their employees working with them for 10 to 20 years or more. Even though Carpet Baggers is locally owned, they’re a member of the largest flooring co-op in North America, Carpet 1, which means they can offer the same prices and financing as the box stores. As one can agree, when it comes to any type of renovation or home improvement, it can be stressful. Walking into a store, not knowing what to do or how to start is intimidating. As a customer, you won’t feel that at Carpet Baggers. The industry went from having no choices, to having way too many choices, which turned off consumers and they found themselves timid to even step into a store. Now, they streamline choices for consumers to make it easier and efficient. “We have changed our showroom floor. It’s almost like a boutique. Very streamlined, bright, styled and sectioned off to guide you in your choices, and the consumer feels empowered,” Kelly explained. Once known for their carpets mostly, with time evolving, Carpet Baggers rolled out hardwood flooring and rugs. “When I first started in this industry, the consumer had no choices. Carpet back then was at 75 percent floor covering and hardwood floors weren’t represented well at all. In addition, waterproof flooring had not been born yet. Now, carpet floor covering represents only 30 percent in the industry,” Dean stated. Carpet Baggers has a unique rug program of their own. Any of their carpets can be made into any shape or size rug. They have the capability to create the rug in house. Their lead time turnaround after purchase is about two weeks. Hardwood or waterproof flooring with accents of rugs throughout your home is the popular trend right now. Many homeowners have pets and carpet flooring isn’t a good idea. Carpets hold onto dirt, smells, stains and dust harder than a tight grip on a football. If you have all hardwood flooring, accenting your home with rugs is key and gives a great pop in each room. Carpet Baggers also does staircase runners which are very popular. “We install on average about three to four runners a week in homes, so stair runners are very popular these days. People love them especially for pets and the elderly walking up and down the stairs,” their daughter Sydney, a sales consultant, explained. Customer service is Carpet Baggers calling card. They have built their clientele not through major marketing but word of mouth. The showroom helps customers to really guide them. From tile to the hardwood, Carpet Baggers staff is always ready to assist. Customers do their research on what they want and they execute it by helping them fine tune their vision. Being a turnkey service company, they get rid of your old carpet, move your furniture, do all the heavy lifting, take away all your trash and old carpet/wood and recycle it themselves. They can fit anyone’s price point; they have products for any budget. Their installers are all certified and insured, they offer a three-year labor warranty and every product they carry has warranties as well.
