For more than half a century, the family-run business has grown alongside the town, adapting to an evolving industry while staying grounded in the same principles that built its reputation. Through two generations of leadership, that steady commitment has made Ascue’s a go-to for drivers who want straightforward service and quality work on which they can rely. Their story traces back to 1968 when Timothy Ascue opened the shop with the vision of building something meaningful for both his family and his community. What began as a small local operation expanded as Mount Pleasant did, with his children picking up the craft early and eventually stepping into leadership roles of their own. That continuity remains part of the experience today, reflected in the number of longtime customers who keep bringing their cars back. Some families have trusted the shop across generations. Parents know that when their teen says, “I barely tapped the curb,” what they really mean is, “I dented something important,” and the proper response is, “Take it to Ascue’s.” Back in the shop’s early years, the team developed their reputation by taking on the more difficult or unusual jobs that others would pass up. Their willingness to handle challenging work is exactly what perpetuated the word-of-mouth recommendations that spread their name throughout the community. No matter how complicated a job seemed, everyone knew that Ascue’s could manage it. The auto-body world has changed dramatically since the late 1960s, with vehicles today using different materials and more advanced technology. Repair processes change frequently, which requires ongoing and extensive training. The team has kept pace and grown alongside the trade by embracing these new systems and investing in updated tools that match modern standards. Much has changed, but through every shift their focus has stayed the same: Do the work carefully. Do it honestly. Do it right the first time. It’s no secret that Mount Pleasant has seen significant growth over time. With each passing year, our population increases and the Ascue’s team remains grateful for the opportunity to help new people, while continuing to foster relationships with clients who have trusted them for years. Cars may look different now and repair methods may be more advanced, but the philosophy inside the shop has stayed consistent. As the team holds firm to the work ethic that established the business decades ago, the ongoing recognition from our community simply mirrors what locals have known all along: when care, skill and integrity guide the work, people remember Ascue’s.
