We enjoy bringing you every page of every issue. The May/June issue is our family edition – one of my favorites. Over the years, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina’s fourth largest municipality, has been given many accolades: All-America City; One of the Best Places to Live; and top-rated for education. Whatever the acknowledgment, I believe Mount Pleasant is a strong and vibrant community because at our core we have strong families values, religion and education. Several of the articles in this issue focus on one of our community’s core strengths: family. The Favorite Moms and Dads articles start on page 64. The words featured here are from readers who sent us their stories. They exude deep feelings about their friend, family member, husband or wife. I will be shocked if your eyes don’t water up and your heartstrings don’t tighten when you read these stories. If you would like us to feature a loved one or a friend as a 2019 Favorite Mom or Dad, please visit www.ECfavoriteDad.com or www.ECfavoriteMom.com . Be a hero: Tell them how you really feel. Taking care of an aging mom or dad is getting easier in East Cooper. Several new retirement communities have been built in recent years. Along with the retirement communities that have been here for a while, they have provided an excellent way to keep mom and dad close by. To get an excellent overview of retirement lifestyles available in Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island, check out the Mount Pleasant Senior Living magazine, starting on page 177. If you’re a woman who works outside the home or a mom who owns or runs a business, you’ll appreciate our 2018 Women In Business, beginning on page 97. Starting with my mom and sisters and now my wife of 30 years, I know the mountains you can climb and the achievements you can attain when you surround yourself with strong, smart and caring women. I’ve acknowledged this all my life on a personal and business level. Every year, we bring to the forefront some of the area’s strongest and most innovative women inside Women In Business. For past editions and dozens of interviews, visit www.ChsWomenInBusiness.com . Speaking of women in business, our editor, Denise K. James, is leaving us. This is bittersweet for me. She has brought so much creativity, energy and passion to this publishing team. I’ve enjoyed how we would, along with Brian Sherman and the rest of our editorial staff, generate story and photography ideas. I enjoyed being her cheerleader, encouraging her to reach beyond her comfort zone to achieve more than she thought she could do - like when she got an interview with then Gov. Nikky Haley and when she lined up interviews with coaches Dabo Swinney and Will Muschamp. Denise will be moving to Birmingham, Alabama, to be the managing editor of Paula Deen’s magazine. She will be sorely missed. All of us here at Mount Pleasant Magazine are truly humbled by the way our community, readers and advertisers have supported our efforts in telling the stories of Mount Pleasant. Thanks for reading the fruits of our passion. Until next time, — B i l l M a c c h i o, Publisher Publisher@MountPleasantMagazine.com P.S: As I was writing this publisher’s note, I learned that the main sanctuary of St. Andrew’s Church in Mount Pleasant was engulfed in flames. Our hearts go out to my church family, Bishop Steve Wood and everyone affected.
