With Mother’s Day in May and Father’s Day in June, it just made sense to us. We hope you’ll find our family-focused articles interesting and upbeat. For me, one of the joys of being a publisher is watching and feeling the excitement of the artists you surround yourself with. If you’re lucky enough to have a passionate publishing family around you as I do, the sparks and excitement are always flying. An example would be our illustrious Managing Editor, Helen Harris. Leading up to publishing her cover story, “Mount Pleasant Strong: Meet the Greer Family,” Helen enthusiastically and multiple times said things like, “It’s really coming along” or “The Greer story is going to be really good.” Helen also penned a piece on the history of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, as well as a babysitter’s guide. As in any family, members share common DNA, as is the case of Denise K. James, Mount Pleasant Magazine’s past editor. Denise is still part of this family. Staying in shape and being around a community of new moms, “The Motherhood Movement” is her contribution to this issue. Denise will always call Mount Pleasant home, but, currently, she is working in Jacksonville, Florida. Other family members include Anne Shuler Toole, who did a great job with her article on adoption — worth the read for sure. Brian Sherman contributed several articles in this issue. His article “Our Community, Our Children” will open your eyes — at least it did mine — to a whole other world out there. All parents need to be aware of the unfortunate, but real, things Brian writes about. Tonya McGue has become part of the Mount Pleasant Magazine family. She’s had the DNA for publishing a good part of her life, so it was easy for her to become part of this publishing family. Tonya has interviewed several of the local business women for “Women in Business,” as well as read every article as our copy editor. I couldn’t forget one of our long-time family members, Stacy Domingo. You will see her byline on several “Women in Business” articles. Dana Coleman’s publishing DNA is up-close and personal, since he is this family’s art director. When all the craziness of publishing is going on, other family members will converge in Dana’s office. It has a zen feeling, which is unusual for the crazy, fast-moving world of publishing. Dana shares his office with Bethany Thurm, our production manager, who joined us a few months ago. Her DNA has been a seamless fit within our team. Longtime family members include George Conklin, webmaster, and Ginger Sotille and Diane Pauldine in bookkeeping. All our combined DNA patterns enjoy bringing each issue of Mount Pleasant Magazine . We hope that your work family is as excited about what they do as we are about what we do.
