Mount Pleasant Magazine Documenting Covid-19

9 www.CoronavirusMag.com | www.ReadMPM.com | www.ILoveMountPleasant.com O ur personal timelines are often benchmarked by major events throughout our lives. The timelines vary depending on where life has taken us. For me, it was events like Walt Disney World opening in 1971 in Orlando while I was going to school in Winter Park. Or when I was in the military living in Alaska and the Alaskan pipeline began construction in 1974. There was also the time when Hilton Head Island’s Sea Pines turned 50 in 2006 and they had Mount Pleasant Magazine document their birth and the next 50 years. That was exciting for me. One of my personal timeline adventures was Hurricane Hugo in 1989 (see Hurricane Chaser page 123). It was that personal timeline event that compelled me to document my first hurricane, Hurricane Hugo, and then Andrew, Bertha, Floyd and others. It also compelled me to document what we are going through now with COVID-19. For some just like the Hugo magazine, which is still around after 31 years, this issue of Mount Pleasant Magazine will be a keepsake that will be a part of your personal timeline. Your personal documentation, if you will. Of course, just like other businesses during the uncertain time of COVID-19 the team here at Mount Pleasant Magazine had to be creative and focus on our approach to bring you this COVID-19 edition. Although I know I drove everyone crazy, we stayed positive and on course. I am so very proud of this publishing family here at Mount Pleasant Magazine. As we all dealt with masks, rubber gloves, being quarantined, additional concerns and anxiety we were still driven to publish this special issue. After reading our articles about survivors, the uplifting words of how families enjoyed their time together strengthening their roots, how our four-legged family members helped us control the stress we are all experiencing, etc. — we hope you will adopt the saying, “No Pain No Gain,” and discover the many ways COVID-19 has made you and your loved ones stronger and more appreciative of what we all have. We sincerely hope you will enjoy the fruits of our efforts.
