The foundation of any forward-thinking community must include a strong family base. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy publishing the family edition, because our town has a strong base of engaging parents. I believe whenever a community protects and stimulates the young minds in the area, which Mount Pleasant does, the entire community is better for it. The Town of Mount Pleasant and Mount Pleasant Magazine are working together to bring attention to the families who are privileged to have family members with special abilities. These families have a strength, determination and patience that is unmatched. These families, in so many ways, enrich the communities they call home. These strengths, combined with our area’s rich history, will help propel Mount Pleasant to secure a third All-America City award for 2023. Mount Pleasant is one of 20 finalists. We secured this coveted award back in 2010 and 2018. There are a limited number of towns who have earned three awards of this magnitude, but as we work together, we can make this happen. I’d like to encourage you to watch or listen to our most recent podcast on MountPleasantPodcast.com, which further explains how it’s a community affair. Katie Augustine, the town’s community engagement strategist, details the process on page 28. On June 8, 40 delegates from Mount Pleasant will travel to Denver for the upcoming All-America City final competition that will take place June 9 – 11. We will be competing against 19 cities throughout the country. This year’s theme is “Creating Thriving Communities through Youth Engagement.” Our community has taken this theme to the next level with an all-inclusive approach. To learn more, read Isabela Alvarez Arata’s article beginning on page 34. I love our town. I’m sure that’s obvious. For me, it is about publishing the town’s magazine, but there is more to it. When you are a part of a community where your children are surrounded by residents who truly care, you can’t ask for anything more. Please read the article I penned on page 46. It’s a personal story about our town, my family’s journey involving a traumatic brain injury and how our community embraced my son to make his life the best it can be. No matter what happens in Denver, I believe we are already living in the finest example of an All-America City!
