Our East Cooper Neighbors STEVE FEATHERSTONE Where do you live? We live in Mount Pleasant. We moved here from Southern California in 2010 and fell in love. Tell me about your professional career. I graduated fromWest Point in 1974. I served as an infantry officer in the 9th infantry division based out of Fort Lewis, Washington. My more interesting times during those five years were assignments to Germany, Italy and Alaska. After serving for five years, I transitioned to a corporate career with Procter & Gamble. I worked in their manufacturing and made products ranging from Pampers to Folgers at six different plants in five states. In 2004, I retired from P&G and reinvented myself by earning my California math credential and began my teaching career. In 2010, we moved to Mount Pleasant where I taught at Palmetto Christian Academy for 11 years. I finally retired in 2021, but I continue to tutor students on the side. What is the biggest piece of advice you have for your grandchildren? Everyone faces adversity in their life. I was taught “quit” is a four letter word. My advice to my grandchildren is to never make excuses and never quit just because “it’s hard.” RICHARD IRIART Where do you live? My wife and I live in Seabrook Island, but our family used to live in Mount Pleasant, and I continue to work in Daniel Island. What is your occupation? I am a State Farm agent based out of Daniel Island. Where is your favorite place in Mount Pleasant to take your grandchildren? We love to go watch their sports games and support them in any activities. What is your favorite memory with your grandkids? Any time I spend with my grandkids is special. We love Sunday mornings with them at church and taking them to the beach. JD ZUBIA Where do you live? We live off Clements Ferry Road. What is your occupation? I am the headmaster at Palmetto Christian Academy in Mount Pleasant. It is a private Christian school with 785 students enrolled. I love being part of the process of helping students find their God-given purpose in this world. What do you want your grandchildren to learn from you? I want them to live by Matthew 6:33. I want them to learn the importance of loving God and loving others. As they grow up, I want them to find their place in the world that allows them to make the greatest impact. What do you like to do with your grandchildren? We love taking them to the beach, playing in the park and finding new places to eat. We also love teaching them about history, and it is easy to find museums, churches, plantations and historical sites in our area.
