In addressing other moms in our community, Toto wants them to remember that “things happen for a reason. You are their world, and they follow your lead. Give them all you can.” SEASON OF GRIEF Emily Cadwell’s journey through motherhood is marked by the profound depths of loss and the courageous pursuit of healing and overcoming. When Cadwell’s second child was only 4 months old, she lost her father unexpectedly. Only five days after his passing, she herself was diagnosed with a rare cancer. As she navigates the complexities of grief while raising her two children, now ages 7 and 9, Cadwell’s journey is a testament to the power of love and fortitude in the face of adversity. For Cadwell, motherhood in this season is about making a conscious decision to be mentally and emotionally present for her family, despite the weight of grief that sometimes threatens to consume her. To this, Cadwell shared, “Grief is unpredictable. It can hit you out of nowhere and you have to find a way to acknowledge it, sit with it for a minute and choose to proceed.” Yet, amid the darkness, Cadwell finds hope and joy in reflecting on how far she has come on this journey. “Sometimes I think to myself: ‘look at all you’ve been through and you’re still showing up, still marching on,’” she mused. For Stevens, the path to motherhood has been filled with twists and turns, as she navigates the intricacies of fertility and fostering with grace and perseverance. Despite facing challenges in conceiving through traditional methods, Stevens refused to let despair dictate her journey. “I would definitely tell other women who want to start a family, but don’t know how, there are many ways to become a mother,” she stated. Stevens recounted her own struggles with fertility, trying multiple rounds of Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) to no avail. However, her journey took a new direction when she was inspired by families who fostered young family Emily Cadwell and her family.
