We settle in the garden with our dog, When suddenly there is chatter from the fowl and frogs. We grab our glasses that halt the sun’s rays To behold the event we’ve been expecting for days. We observe the darkening sky from our hammocks. Our dog becomes confused and starts to panic. The temperature begins to fall And the cool breeze whistles like a sparrow’s call. We lean forward in anticipation For nature’s astronomical presentation. The sun is masked as it is hugged by the moon. Lightning flashes and thunder booms. The eclipse reaches totality and the masses cheer. The clouds break apart and the eclipse is clear. Hide, Guinea Pig, Hide! Hide guinea pig hide! The world around you changes by the second, And you are changing with it. You hear the ocean calling out To you and every other visitor on her vast beach. She will pull you in and won’t let go, She will love and care for you With each gentle wave. She is strong and clever and keen. She is the seaway in which you swim. She is the everlasting, ever-changing, limitless force we know as the sea.
