Here in our beloved South, Thanksgiving has become an extension of our home-connected culture: day-long meal preparation, family conversation and perhaps one cocktail too many. But there is one Thanksgiving tradition that has somehow weaseled its way in through our TV sets and radio dials. That, of course, is American football. Yes, if there is one thing that can overshadow all this family togetherness and the thrill of who gets the last bite of green bean casserole, it is that darn pigskin. And while the pros play on Thanksgiving Day, it is the following Saturday that piques the interest of families across South Carolina. It’s the day of the rivalry in the Palmetto State: The Clemson- South Carolina football game. The thing about Thanksgiving is that it lasts for the entire four-day weekend – or, for some people, five-day weekend.
