I don’t think I’m anywhere as good as these people are because they are so talented.’” Some people are born with a natural talent; they just have it. Others are born with these skills but don’t necessarily grasp it as easily. “So if they cultivate it,” Davis said, “they can almost outshoot the people who are born with it and who don’t necessarily cultivate it.” And cultivate she did, studying art abroad in Italy through the University of Georgia. But after becoming engaged and subsequently breaking it off upon returning to the States, she was left feeling lost. “I did some real soul-searching, and, around that time, I got connected to Seacoast Church. I was starving for community.” Seacoast was 45 minutes away, but Davis wanted to be there all the time. “It really breathed some life back into me, which is part of the reason why I feel so passionate about community. … I think artists struggle with isolation and feeling alone. … like you aren’t understood. The opposite of isolation is community, and I think community often helps break that. You can be a part of something bigger than yourself. That’s a piece of why Charleston Creative Community is so important to me.” It was at Seacoast where Davis met her husband and started a family. One day, the church based a series off of Hillsong’s “So Will I” as a means of inspiring creativity. This led to Davis performance painting on weekends on Seacoast’s live stream to 10,000 people around the world. They started reaching out to her for feedback, and the idea of Charleston Creative Community was born. Davis has been fanning the flame of creativity ever since.
