That’s when life took yet another turn: a chance conversation with a singer/songwriter at a destination wedding led Shippee to his current adventure. “Every time McGoozer played for the crowd, people stopped whatever they were doing and listened. I told him, ‘I would love to help you even though I don’t really know the music business, but I’m sure I can help from a business perspective, market you and use the entertainment network I still have in place.’” So he did. He teamed with some old friends from his New York City days, and is now CEO of ShipWright Productions, where he represents a handful of chart-topping international musicians. Amid all of this, he and his wife chose to relocate to Mount Pleasant in 2011. “Mount Pleasant was the one place that was screaming our names, and for all the obvious reasons: weather, proximity to the beach, the food scene (because I love to eat!), and it’s a location our children love to visit,” Shippee smiled. All told, Shippee agrees that his experiences have made for an interesting journey. “Life is kind of like music. You can change the words, but the melody is what you keep humming in your head, so I like to keep rocking to a good tune and just change the words every five years or so.” 2020 ® S T O F M P .
