I have never been more ready for a holiday season. My plan is for it to be stress-free this year. I want the focus to be on being with everyone, rather than the cooking, shopping or decorating. What’s your favorite winter activity in Mount Pleasant? Hands down, the Mount Pleasant Christmas Parade. I do not miss it! What holiday dish are you most looking forward to indulging in? I am not sure I could name a favorite dish. I love them all. Especially all the carbs and desserts. Vilmarie Bennett Job: Lead Interior Designer at Haven’s Furniture in Mt. Pleasant How are you planning on celebrating the holidays this year? My favorite thing to do during the holiday season is listen to Christmas music and gather with family and friends. What’s your favorite winter activity in Mount Pleasant? In the winter, I look forward to Sundays and brunch on Shem Creek. What holiday dish are you most looking forward to indulging in? Born and raised in Puerto Rico, there is nothing like Pernil y Arroz con Gandules . It’s slow roasted pork, marinated in Puerto Rican seasonings and rice with pigeon peas. Of course, let’s not forget dessert; flan, majarete, tembleque and arroz con dulce . MelissaHenderson Job: Author How are you planning on celebrating the holidays this year? In place of big family gatherings, our family will be making videos, sharing phone calls and celebrating in small groups. One positive way to think about celebrating in unique ways is that we get to celebrate all month. What’s your favorite winter activity in Mount Pleasant? Walking on the beach when the air is chilly. I’m originally from Virginia and moved to South Carolina three years ago. Enjoying a leisurely stroll on the beach when the air is crisp reminds me to be thankful for each season. What holiday dish are you most looking forward to indulging in? I have two sisters, and they both have great recipes. One holiday dish I can’t wait to make is“Glenda’s sweet potato casserole.” The other dish is“Carol’s candied sweet potatoes.” There’s something special about the aroma of sweet potatoes and cinnamon that makes me feel warm and cozy. StephenDarby Job: Owner and DJ at Darby Events How are you planning on celebrating the holidays this year? We often travel for the holiday season, but after this challenging year, we are keeping the celebration close to home, cooking up our family’s favorite recipes and playing games. I’ll also be playing Christmas carols on the piano. What’s your favorite winter activity in Mount Pleasant? I really enjoy jumping on the boat and harvesting local oysters. We invite friends and family over for oyster roasts all winter long, and there is nothing better than eating clusters of oysters that came from your backyard. What holiday dish are you most looking forward to indulging in? Prime Rib. It’s a dish we only have during the holiday season, and the smell fosters great memories of holidays past. Don’t forget the horseradish and au jus.
