Our East Cooper Neighbors JOAN LESKY Where do you live? I live in North Mount Pleasant. Where do you work? I am a culture and brand campus liaison at Seacoast Church. How do you give back during the holiday season? The holidays are very special to me and my husband. We love to help give to single moms and their families in need during this season, but we would love to encourage everyone that this need is year-round. Two of the organizations we like to partner with are the North Charleston Dream Center and the North Charleston Dream Center Clinic. Do you travel for the holidays or enjoy staying home with family? We either stay home or travel depending on the year, but whatever we choose, the whole family comes with us. RICHARD HORNE Where do you live? Our family resides in the middle of Mount Pleasant off Long Point Road. What is your occupation? I am a financial advisor with Edward Jones. What is your favorite thing about the holiday season in Mount Pleasant? The change of focus toward each other as we personally engage one another by exchanging Christmas gifts, as well as hosting and enjoying a variety of holiday gatherings throughout our Holy City. What do you enjoy doing with your family during the holidays? I enjoy just being with family from across town and afar for memorable conversations and fun. Last year, our daughters and their cousins participated in a hilarious Christmas scavenger hunt in Mount Pleasant, raising money for three local charities. We also enjoy our memorable Christmas Eve church services complete with Christmas music at Seacoast Church and East Cooper Baptist Church. JENNA SURRATT Where do you live? I I live in the Daniel Island/Clements Ferry Road area. What is your occupation? I am the women’s pastor of Seacoast Church. What is your favorite holiday tradition? In November, I love to attend the Crèche Festival. It is a collection of nativity scenes from all over the world at Mepkin Abbey. My family and I have a picnic lunch by the water after we walk through the crèches. Another low-key tradition we have is pancakes, popcorn and “Polar Express” in our pajamas! How do you and your family serve the community during the holiday season? Since our family is in ministry, our Christmas Eve looks different from most people because we have the honor of hosting thousands of people for candlelight services. We all serve in some capacity, whether it is lighting candles or greeting or helping in the nursery. One of my daughters has a huge heart for the homeless, so we also put together hope kits stuffed with all the necessities to give out during the holiday season.
