104 www.ReadMPM.com | www.MountPleasantMagazine.com | www.MountPleasantPodcast.com During this cooler time of year, our neighbors east of the Cooper shared what they love most about living in Mount Pleasant, what they’re doing for fun in their spare time and what advice they would give someone who is thinking about moving to Mount Pleasant. KARINA GARRISON President of the Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce, Senior vice president of Pinnacle Financial Partners Park West Karina Garrison said, “My family and I love being part of a community where neighbors support local businesses, where our kids can grow up biking to parks and exploring the creeks and where people genuinely look out for one another.” Garrison added, “We love hiking the trails at Palmetto Islands and Laurel Hill county parks. We bundle up and take the dogs for long walks on the Isle of Palms beach. Our favorite tradition is a cozy camping staycation at our local KOA with quality time by the fire. The winter season allows us a little more space to enjoy the Lowcountry at a slower pace.” “The more you engage, the sooner Mount Pleasant feels like home. This is a community that supports families, encourages entrepreneurship and celebrates local success. Mount Pleasant has a way of welcoming you into something bigger than yourself.” MIKE COMPTON President of RMBO Advertising Mike Compton said, “There are so many reasons to love living in Mount Pleasant, but my top two would have to be the livability and the lifestyle that comes with our climate. We really get three great seasons here and for most of them, you can still spend time on the beach.” “I’d also be remiss not to mention our CCSD schools. Wando High, ranked eighth among South Carolina high schools, focuses on preparing students to be careerready young adults while also investing heavily in its teachers. It’s a community that truly values both education and quality of life.” “That said, it’s not exactly a hidden gem anymore. Traffic can be heavy and housing isn’t cheap. My advice would be to spend some time here before making the move, check out the different neighborhoods and get a feel for what part of town fits your lifestyle best. If you love the outdoors, family-friendly activities and a strong sense of community, you’ll love it here. Just plan ahead and embrace the coastal pace.” LAUREN COX Keller Williams Realty Lauren Cox said, “I love the localness of Mount Pleasant – the small businesses, coastal charm and proximity to the beach. I also love the farmers markets, Shem Creek Boardwalk, Pitt Street Bridge and the many parks and trails that make it easy to enjoy the outdoors year-round. I especially love exploring the areas near our home by golf cart or bike with my husband and kids.” “When the temperatures drop, I spend even more time outside biking, taking our dog to the beach or paddleboarding in a wetsuit. My husband and I also enjoy College of Charleston basketball games and date nights.” Cox suggested, “Take your time exploring. Every neighborhood has its own character and charm. Whether you want to be near the beach, close to great schools or somewhere walkable, there’s a perfect fit here.” Our East Cooper Neighbors BY SARAH ROSE To recommend an interesting neighbor in our community, contact Editor@MountPleasantMagazine.com.
