The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) 2022 President is a female: Dallas broker associate Leslie Rouda Smith. Moreover, 65% of the association is made up of women. These are huge achievements to acknowledge upon looking back to how it started. Only 37 women total attended NAR’s 1938 annual convention in Milwaukee. How far it has come, and what opportunities it has provided. It was a different time when the earliest women in real estate, like Eulalie Chafee Salley of Aiken, South Carolina, entered the profession in 1915. Her passion was to advance women’s rights, which motivated Chafee to build her real estate business. Her career included being a founder of the Aiken Board of Realtors and serving as vice president of the South Carolina Association of Real Estate Boards. She was named the “first lady of South Carolina Realtors” in 1959. Though she was then quite outnumbered by men, she began paving the road for generations to come. South Carolina Women in Real Estate membership includes women throughout the state who are passionate about celebrating the business and uplifting their fellow members. Members can be accessed at SCWomenInRealEstate.com. You can also watch, listen and learn from members who are interviewed on special episodes of VOICE for real estate, SCWomenInRealEstate.com/podcast. Become a part of a revolution.
