has come a long way from its
inception in 1984, when Rex and
Jenny Atkinson founded the firm as
a small pool maintenance company.
The couple’s business started in
a red supply shed, with nothing
more than a pickup truck for making calls. Atkinson Pool
Company has grown to become
the Lowcountry’s only full-service
swimming pool and spa provider, with more than 40 full-
time employees.
“Rex started the business 32 years ago,” said Josh
Atkinson, “and I have had the pleasure of working with
both my father and my grandfather
(Ralph). We are so pleased to be
where we are after starting as a small
company.”
Josh joined the business over a
decade ago and has been building
pools full-time since. He pointed out
that Atkinson Pools is more than just
a swimming pool builder and supply
store.
“We service over 500 pools per
week, do commercial construction,
maintenance and repair, sell hot tubs,
repair pools and spas and are the
only warranty center for every major
manufacturer in town,” he explained.
“One of our biggest selling points
is that we are the only company in
town with our last name on the side of the building. That
may not mean a lot until it all boils down to reputation,
which is everything to us. It’s extremely important to us
to provide our clients with something that would not only
serve them well long-term but also something we would
want for our family and friends long-term.”
It is this commitment to quality and customer service

well the best way you can,” said Atkinson, adding that
the company’s ultimate goal isn’t to sell its clients what
is easiest or most popular. “It’s about providing the best
possible resource and product to
them for the long-term health of
their investment. Outside of a car
or a house, often times a pool will
be the largest investment our clients
will make in their lifetimes. It’s our
responsibility to provide them with
lasting and durable products and
design choices.”
