Haddrell’s Point Tackle and Supply Mike Able, who is the owner/operator of Haddrell’s Point Tackle and Supply along with his brother, Graham Able, said, “We never actually closed because we were deemed essential due to the boating and hunting supplies that the Department of Natural Resources needs for their responders.” Now named Best Hunting and Fishing Store in Mount Pleasant and one of the Best Sporting Goods Stores, Able said they are truly humbled by the community support. “We want to thank our customers for bearing with us as we navigated COVID-19,” he said. “It was a learning experience for all of us.” Living in a coastal community and being the “go- to” for fishing and hunting supplies is quite an honor. Haddrell’s opened in Mount Pleasant in 1983 and has been serving local fishing and hunting enthusiasts ever since. Named after Haddrell’s Point, which is located at the tip end of Shem Creek along Cove Inlet, this popular store is more than just a place to buy bait. It’s deeply rooted in Mount Pleasant, and, with continued support from locals, it will remain that way for years to come — or as long as the fish are biting. F or anglers everywhere, social distancing and spending more time outdoors proved not to be a problem. As many people found themselves either furloughed or working from home, their crazy busy schedules were suddenly wide open to take up the sport of recreational fishing. These trends were in the favor of stores like Haddrell’s Point Tackle and Supply. Thanks to an increase in anglers, they managed to weather the pandemic’s economic storm.
