I LoveMountPl easant . com T here’s an abundance of rich content in this issue, but for me, one of the most exciting things was to publish our calendar of events. It clearly emphasizes we have more control over COVID-19, and there is a sense of normality rolling over everyday life. Along with the calendar, our front cover, featuring Tidal Wave Watersports and taken by Jeanne Taylor, says it all. Just look at their happy faces, the blue summer sky and the white caps on the water. We are once again appreciating and showing love to the world around us. Covid has helped us all appreciate life’s simple pleasures — family, friendships and the Lowcountry. Speaking of appreciation, I’d like to give a shout-out to someone to whom all Mount Pleasant residents owe a big thank you: Clay Duffie. Clay has been a servant to this community as manager of Mount Pleasant Waterworks since March 1989. If you’ve ever smelled a rotten egg, well, that’s what our water tasted and smelled like when Clay Duffie took over the town’s water! We should all give a high-five to Clay as he retires after 32 productive years. Read Bill Farley’s article about one of our town’s behind-the-scenes heroes, starting on page 58. In addition to engaging feature editorials, our many profiles on Women In Business, Medicine and Real Estate are also inspiring. These women are making it happen — turning their dreams into profits, strengthening the communities they serve and bringing distinct vision to their professions. We men, dare I say, can and often should take a lesson from these women — that is, to do what we love and to let success follow. In fact, the theme to pursue what you love (rather than money or power) is recurring, starting on page 81 with Erin Kienzle’s Forward about her childhood hobby, which she has turned into a new enterprise. I invite our readers to ask themselves, what career would you dive into, if money were no object? If you need some inspiration, open this issue, and read all about Charleston’s landscape of strong, confident, hardworking and focused women, who grace these pages and offer their wisdom.
