Mount Pleasant Magazine July/August 2021
15 www.MountPl easantPodcas t . com | www. ReadMPM. com | www. I LoveMountPl easant . com T here is no place better to live during the summer than Mount Pleasant. Sure, it’s humid, but I’m a former resident of Las Vegas, and summer meant long days hiding out indoors, waiting for the sun to go down just so that temperatures could drop to a bearable 102 degrees. In comparison, Mount Pleasant is full of activities to fill up long summer days – trips to the beach, blueberry picking, boating and kayaking. I’m already racking up hours at our community pool, where the water is that perfect temperature to cool you off without giving you goosebumps. In all of the places I’ve lived, I’ve never gotten a passive suntan (wearing high SPF, of course) the way I do while I’m playing in the summer sun in our coastal town. This issue is truly a tribute to the magic that is a Mount Pleasant summer. My colleague Theresa Stratford hopped on a boat and headed out with Tidal Wave Water Sports for a parasailing adventure (page 40) while writer Colin McCandless hit the road less traveled for some exquisite wildlife sightings at Fort Palmetto (page 55) and Fay Boudet explored the return of entertainment for your after-dark enjoyment (page 26). Aside from all of the amazing activities, one of my favorite things about summer is the food. We’re incredibly fortunate to have a front-row seat to some of the best summer produce in the country – flavorful melons, juicy tomatoes and, of course, peaches. There’s nothing quite like biting into a perfectly ripe, juicy South Carolina peach on a hot summer day. Writer Anne Toole went on a mission to find us some unique, local recipes to keep in your back pocket for when you buy a whole bushel and need to get creative (page 36). And, since you can’t write about summer foods without mentioning ice cream, our staff came together to share our favorite local frozen treats (page 28). This summer, instead of worrying about the “feels-like temperature,” grab an ice-cold popsicle or beverage, get out on the water, and soak in the sun. Because it may be hot, but after all, we live in Mount Pleasant. And these are some of the best days of the year. Lindsay C.
