Mount Pleasant Magazine March/April 2023

11 www. ReadMPM. com | www.MountPl easantMagaz i ne. com | www.MountPl easantPodcas t . com There is always something that has a special meaning for me in each edition we publish. The same goes for our different podcasts. The theme for both this issue of Mount Pleasant Magazine and the VOICE for Real Estate podcast is “beautiful homes,” and that makes both mediums special for the same reason. What is that reason? This is the only time of year we can compile and share with you our real estate data from the previous year. On the latest episode of VOICE for Real Estate, Doug Holmes — who’s been crunching MLS data for decades — and I take a trip around Charleston. We discuss the number of sales, the continued increase in pricing and the decrease of the number of homes sold in over a dozen towns in the greater Charleston area. I want to give a shoutout to our podcast sponsors, SouthState Bank and Schirmer Insurance Group, for helping make this possible. As with the podcast, this issue of Mount Pleasant Magazine features extensive real estate information, including our “Top Ten Homes Sold” listings starting on page 69. It is about our homes inside and out — from the initial investment to the decorating and landscaping. You’ll find leading Realtors, builders, insurance companies, landscapers, pool builders and designers in our “Beautiful Homes” section starting on page 103. Though this issue focuses on homes, we feel one of our responsibilities as a community magazine is to highlight the people who enrich our community. In these pages we honored two such residents who just left us. Thomasena Stokes- Marshall was a fantastic person and exceptional leader who served Mount Pleasant in so many ways, beginning with her 17 years on town council. Mount Pleasant is richer and better because Thomasena was part of our community. Writer Mary Coy pens a tribute to Thomasena starting on page 29. Arthur Ravenel gave a lot to Mount Pleasant, Charleston and, of course, to everyone who crosses the Ravenel Bridge. I’m proud to have spent some time with Cousin Arthur, including taking his photo for the front cover of East Cooper Magazine, the predecessor of Mount Pleasant Magazine. If you’d like to read about my adventures with Arthur, the article starts on page 31. We appreciate you, our readers and our supporting marketing partners. We are so proud to serve our community.
