It’s found in the beautiful homes we’re featuring, in the outdoor articles ushering us into spring and in the personalities of prominent community leaders (Arthur Ravenel and Thomasena Stokes-Marshall) honored in this volume. As I began editing articles this time around, I noticed the pure ambiance of our area more than ever. Beauty is the reason we have all chosen this place. It’s good for the soul to be surrounded by things that are aesthetically pleasing. It’s why we have gardens. It’s why we have useless throw pillows on our couches, or hunks of pretty metal hanging around our necks. It’s why we’ve all chosen to live among the marshes, palmetto trees and sandy beaches. I think there must be a connection between the land and the personalities around here that shine so darn brightly. Somehow one affects the other, a symbiotic relationship. This issue journeys through all aspects of the things that make life in the Mount Pleasant area wonderful. We have featured architectural beauty, natural beauty and even scenic drives as we explore surrounding gems like the Hammock Coast. We have even curated books, wine and recipe sections to encourage a little more leisure in the lives of our readers. As you thumb through each section, I ask one thing of you. Take it all in. Consider stopping to read that book or take that suggested day trip. Enjoy this issue as your moment to stop and smell the newly blooming roses. Escape into the pages with us, then outside to see it in real life. Don’t just set this issue down and return to the stresses of everyday life. Use this one as a reminder to do something happy in the young spring sun. Appreciate the beauty that is the place you get to call home by enjoying it. -Lorna Hollifield Managing Editor MARCH/APRIL 2023 C A L E N D A R O F E V E N T S • B E A U T I F U L H O M E S • T H E H A M M O C K C O A S T A Second Serving of “Best Of” Winners Coming Right Up 2023 WWW.BESTOFMP.COM Tributes to our Late Leaders Farewell to Arthur and Thomasena Read More of Their Stories Taking it Outside Tennis, Trips and Tales from the Bridge YOUR COMMUNITY, YOUR MAGAZINE SCAN • CLICK SUBSCRIBE
