This June, local nonprofit East Cooper Community Outreach is hosting their inaugural charity pickleball tournament -- The Big Dill -- from June 14-16, in partnership with Pickleball Charleston. The event will feature a senior tournament, sponsors and players party and a two-day competitive tournament. “Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America right now and ECCO wanted to be a part of that movement,” said Don Squires, director of Development & Marketing for ECCO. “This will be the first large-scale charity tournament in the Charleston area and a perfect opportunity to give back to the local community while enjoying a weekend of competition and fun!” The tournament is open to all, regardless if you are a beginner or expert. The two-day tournament will be held at Collins Park, a 16-court pickleball facility in North Charleston. “The Big Dill is not just about playing the sport we love; it’s about making a difference in the lives of those in our community who need it most,” stated Ashley Avera, marketing manager at ECCO. Established in 1989, following the destruction of Hurricane Hugo, ECCO has provided help and hope to local neighbors facing financial distress in the Mount Pleasant area and surrounding communities for the past 30-plus years.
