JESSICA AND CASON HUND Growing up in a medical family with a physician and nurse practitioner as parents, Jessica Hund was immersed in the medical world from the time she was a child. Having witnessed the services that her parents provided for patients, who were often going through hard and challenging times, Jessica felt compelled to pursue a career in the field. With a passion for helping people and curious about how physical, emotional and mental health all work together, she began her undergraduate education at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) by majoring in psychology. Towards the end of college, she shifted her focus and entered medical school instead, which allowed her the opportunity to explore a variety of fields. Ultimately, she landed on family medicine and preventative primary care, which she now practices at MUSC. “I have a genuine interest in helping others live well and that’s why I love what I do,” she said. “The most rewarding part of my work is the connections I make with our patients. Being in preventative primary care, I have the unique opportunity to develop strong and deep relationships with them and often their families, which in turn allows me to serve them wholly and optimally in all aspects of their health.” She added that although the treatment plans, changes and goals in preventative health are gradual and don’t lead to immediate results or instant gratification, she often has the joy of seeing successes in patient’s lives that will positively impact them forever. “These moments that I get to share with patients always reaffirms my love for this type of medical service.” At the same time, family is also very important and precious to Jessica, who along with her husband Cason, DMD, and owner of Wando Family Dentistry, is raising three children between the ages of 4 and 8 into kind, empathetic, smart and caring individuals. Regarding sorting out what Hund called “the forever-changing-family-andwork-life balance,” she’s fortunate to practice at MUSC, as with every change over the years, the institution has always supported her needs. Jessica also appreciates that MUSC offers a unique experience to collaborate with many other exceptional providers in different fields. Outside and even above work, Jessica prioritizes family and faith. She spends the majority of her free time staying involved with her children’ s lives, activities, school and events at church and enjoys using her personal time for exercise and exploring the outdoors. A runner at heart, Jessica continues to make sure this is a part of her everyday life. “It provides me with personal time in the mornings and allows me to start my days usually outside, mentally preparing to be a wife, mother and doctor,” she said. Also a graduate of MUSC, Cason chose a career in dentistry because he’s always loved working with people and working with his hands. “Dentistry offers the perfect intersection of artistry and science, allowing me to combine technical skill with a deep commitment to community service. I’m fortunate to practice in this wonderful town and feel truly blessed to serve my neighbors in this capacity – it really is the best of both worlds.” The most rewarding aspects of Cason’s work, he said, are guiding patients through their health journeys and witnessing the immediate boost in confidence that a patient gains from a healthy smile. “It’s a genuine joy to play a role in that transformation and to support my patients’ well-being every day,” he said. “Whether you’ve lived here for years or are just moving to the area, we would be honored to have you as part of our dental family – at Wando Family Dentistry, we are always happy to welcome new patients.” What he loves most about owning a business in Mount Pleasant is the unmatched sense of community. “I am constantly inspired by the people I meet, from lifelong locals to the new residents who join our practice. It’s a fantastic place to live, and I am incredibly grateful to work in such a vibrant environment.” Outside of the office, Cason cherishes spending time outdoors with his family, whether at the beach, on the boat, at the pool, parks or playing sports. He also is active in their local church community at East Cooper Baptist. With the desire to shop local and support family-owned and operated businesses on the rise, the Mount Pleasant community is fortunate to have wonderful resources such as these – and many others – to frequent for goods and services. family Jessica and Cason Hund
