feeling good

I

t’s summertime, and the living is easy in the

Lowcountry. Being so close to the waterways and

beaches, you have your choice to live life to the fullest

on boats and jet skis or get some much-needed rest

and relaxation along the shore. Or, if you plan well, a lot

of both. For many people, though, summertime fun takes

a toll on the body – even if all you plan to do is relax to

the sound of gently-lapping waves.

“We see a significant increase in cases of lower back

pain in the summertime,” said Dr. Matthew Murrin of

ChiropracticUSA. “It can stem from hitting a hard wave

if you’re on a boat or simply sitting in your beach chair for

too long.”

Addressing those particular triggers, Dr. Murrin

suggested trying to stand and brace for any waves on a

boat and getting up every half hour from your beach chair

to relieve pressure on your spinal disks. When trailering

boats or jet skis, he stressed the importance of lifting with

your legs rather than bending at the waist to attach the

trailer to the hitch.

Running on the

beach is another

common cause for

summertime back

pain.

“Sand isn’t as

cushiony as you

would think, and

running on the

beach aggravates

degenerative disks

or previous disk

issues,” he said.

“Wear supportive

sneakers if you

want to run on

the beach, but other great summer exercise alternatives are

biking the beach with a shock-absorptive seat like a beach

cruiser or paddle boarding, which strengthens your core

muscles and actually prevents some future injuries.”

When you try to do it right and you still hurt, or

if you are already experiencing pain, Dr. Murrin and

his team can help get yo

u back to having fun in the

sun. ChiropracticUSA n

ot only wants to ease your

pain but also make you stronger so that you don’t re-

injure yourself down the road. Dr. Murrin specializes

in more than just traditional back pain associated with

chiropractic treatment. He is a chiropractor, a certified

exercise physiologist and a professional fitness and lifestyle

consultant, which is the highest level of personal trainers

in North America. Dr. Murrin is professionally recognized

for working with elite and professional athletes from NFL

players to UFC fighters, Olympic gymnasts and college

basketball players.

“Rather than simply alleviating pain, I emphasize

optimal health through natural chiropractic care and can

recommend simple changes to diet and exercise routines

to help patients move toward total wellness,” he explained.

“We not only want to get you out of pain but help make

you stronger so you don’t re-injure yourself.”

ChiropracticUSA does an extensive consultation and

evaluation in order to identify the problem, fix it and

strengthen the weak area to minimize future problems.

This summer, they are offering a new patient consultation,

exam and any necessary X-rays, and one HydroMassage,

normally priced at $365, for a special price of $37.
