She is estimated to be about 2 years old, but in many ways, she has already lived several lives in this brief time. Shortly after arriving at the shelter, she gave birth to eight puppies. It didn’t take long for all of them to be adopted, but nearly a year later, momma Surrey is still waiting for a home of her own. Surrey is 80 pounds of pure heart and soul with one mission in life: to be a deeply loyal companion. She would do best as either the only animal in the home, or alongside other dogs her own size. Surrey doesn’t mesh well with cats or young children since she can be unintentionally enthusiastic with her affection – her love is best suited for medium-sized companions and up. She is not a high-energy dog, but she is extremely clever. Surrey can open doors (yes, even round doorknobs) and will try to follow her people if given the chance. As a mix of guardian breeds, she strongly prefers eyes on her pack at all times, so she would do best with a family who has the option to either be home with her, or the ability to bring her on your daily adventures. Aside from the dooropening quirk, she is well trained. She walks well on a leash, rides calmly in the car and knows several commands. Surrey is a deeply devoted girl, waiting for someone willing to see that her greatest trait – her loyalty – is also her greatest promise.
