Miss J from “Project Runway” and former supermodel
Kim Alexis were present at shows. Outside, eager paparazzi
waited to snap photos of the fashion models in front of the
post office; Cristo and a few other newbies felt more than
validated as the bright flashes went off. And there were
other perks as well.
“I went to Black Tap Cafe with another model – we
walked all the way there,” Cristo said. “There’s a black
carpet out front and people have to wait to get in, but we
didn’t have to wait because we walked in fashion week.”
Cristo said that her plans for the future include walking
for Storm Dorris again in the February 2017 shows. She’s
also gearing up for college and earning a law degree and
has her sights set upon her goal in the modeling industry.
“Ultimately, I want to do commercial print modeling,”
she explained. “And I’d like to be a lawyer.”
Though Cristo said that much of Fashion Week was
spent alone, the camaraderie among herself and other first-
time models was palpable after each of the shows.
“I got backstage and a lot of the girls would be crying
and hugging each other because it was their first time,” she
said. “It was cool to realize for myself, ‘I’m in New York
and I just walked in Fashion Week.’”
