Our photographer Mark Staff is a genius behind the camera. He’s a rogue, always blowing in with wild ideas that make for great art. It was no different when he pulled up to the field at the town hall complex while a storm loomed in the distance on August 11. This time we had football players fromMount Pleasant’s public schools. Usually rivals, the high school seniors— in their unmatched jerseys—came together to represent the town they all love. They put aside high school politics and competitive spirits for a few hours and horsed around with us on a neutral field to get some great shots. There was mud, rain, scraped shins and so much laughter. All of their futures are bright, but as uncertain as any athlete’s. However, they now have this moment in time captured when they were just three guys who loved to play. They could go all the way, or this could be it. No matter what, they came together to celebrate their love of the game and their love for their collective hometown. That’s a bond that different uniforms can’t break. Make sure to follow Zach Hagedon of Oceanside, Jimmy Webb of Lucy Beckham and Mikey Rosa of Wando this season. We wish them safety, joy and greatness. We also thank them for being a part of that fiber that keeps Mount Pleasant a quaint town despite the growth, a town where people know one another, support one another and remember that they are neighbors after all.
