T

hroughout my publishing career, i’ve been

blessed to have a few significant moments that I felt produced some-

thing exceptional. When I was living in Gainesville, Florida, and

producing my first magazine,

Gainesville Magazine,

I had the oppor-

tunity to publish the University

Of Florida’s basketball program. I considered

that to be an honor.

Ten years after moving to East Cooper,

I experienced Hurricane Hugo. I decided to

document this fierce act of nature with a maga-

zine called

Storm Of The Century - Hurricane

Hugo.

Next, I visited south Florida after Hur-

ricane Andrew left its massive devastation and

documented the storm with another magazine.

And, as a bonus, by publishing the magazine,

we were able to raise money for those in need.

It is so gratifying to knock on the door of a

hurricane survivor’s home and offer some good

news. In many cases, they opened the door and

I saw clouds peeking through holes in the roof.

As I would hand them some financial relief,

their deep sense of despair faded, and they ex-

pressed how much they appreciated the help. That was another significant moment

in my career.

Today, I am proud Mount Pleasant residents and visitors enjoy

Mount Pleasant

Magazine

. And this issue – featuring the 2016 Best of Mount Pleasant cover –

represents another important moment in my career. It all started when we wanted

a way to express excitement over the fact that our readers cast more than 61,000

votes on this year’s “Best Of ” ballots, compared to 36,000 votes in 2015. The Best

of Mount Pleasant is growing steadily and has become an annual resource that

guides new residents and visitors to the best places, people, businesses and services.

Because this issue represents the best East Cooper has to offer, we wanted to

create something extraordinary. We hope in your eyes our cover represents just

that. To me, this represents another significant moment in my years of publishing.

I knew this issue’s cover was going to be special the first time I told my printer,

in business since 1914, about my vision, and they replied they had never printed

this kind of cover. After a dozen more e-mails and conversations, we worked

through how we would produce the cover you’re looking at today.

Publishing is a team sport, and the Best Of 2016 edition, including the cover,

was produced by what I think is a top-notch publishing team. All of us here at

Mount Pleasant Magazine

hope you will enjoy our special cover and the entire Best

Of issue.

Thanks for spending some time with us, and please feel free to join us on

Until next issue,
