t’s difficult for chip GooGe to

put his phone down. The Mount Pleasant

Police Department inspector is one of the

most connected police officials in the tri-

county. Googe controls the following social

media sites for his department: Facebook;

Twitter; Instagram; Next Door, which is a

neighborhood watch app; Vine; YouTube; and even a blog.

He also takes care of media requests and was

responsible for submitting

the Department’s successful

application to the Commission on Accreditation for Law

Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). How does he have time

to do it all?

“I honestly have no idea,” he joked. “My phone goes

off all the time. This is what people have grown to expect.

They want information quickly.”

This social media and community presence is one of

the many reasons the department was awarded a sought-

after national police accreditation – and its social media

reach is only growing. The department recently expanded

the roles of some of its officers to include sharing on

Twitter. Officers assigned to the Social Media Team now

have their own accounts to make it easier for them to
