COASTAL CHRISTIAN PREP
W
ith a mission to assist parents in raising children
to reach their potential – emotionally, spiritually,
academically and physically – Coastal Christian
Prep works hard to prepare its students for a lifetime of success.
Originally started as First Baptist Church School in 1953,
the mission was to serve the families
of the church. Once only a preschool
and elementary program, the school has now expanded to a
fully accredited institution, offering both K-12 education and
early childhood K2-K5 programs.
David Piccolo, head of school, said as the congregation
and school grew, a decision was made to update the name to
Coastal Christian Prep.
“There were different churches that students were
attending and different denominations represented, so the
name was changed to reflect that,” he said.
Piccolo is in his 38th year in education, 24 of which were
spent teaching in public schools.
“This is my third private ministry school, and we have
something very special here. Being a smaller school, we’re
really able to give individual attention to each student,”
Piccolo said.
It’s not just in the classroom where students have an
advantage.
“At the larger schools, a lot of kids can’t play sports for the
school teams because there are so many students,” Piccolo
said. “If kids come here, they probably play. We can also really
assist and work with them personally, and there’s a lot of value
in that.”
In a quickly-changing world, Piccolo said the school
tries to help create a whole student by offering a nurturing,
Christian environment.
“Every class we teach is Kingdom based,” he said. “Kids
leave here with a solid foundation, able to move on and do
remarkable things.”
